The system will weld 1/2” to 2-1/2” fittings on1-1/4 to 8” pipe and will be programmed to weld NAP fittings and one other brand of customer’s choice.  Outlets may be welded within 6-1/2” of the start of the pipe and 3” from the end.

Cycle time to cut hole, remove coupon, place outlet on pipe, and weld is from 32 seconds for 1/2” outlets to 55 seconds for a 2-1/2” outlet.  With the time required to move and position the pipe, we would expect from 300 welds per shift for mixed size outlets at various locations to 450 per shift for small outlets at repetitive locations.  This will be dependent on the operator and the customer’s pipe handling system.

OPERATION

The pipe to be welded is placed in the carriage and locked in the quick chuck head.  The position control system is used to set the first weld location.  The size selector switch is then set to the outlet size, the start cycle button is pressed, the machine comes down and the plasma torch moves to the hole size.  When the button is pressed, the machine cuts the hole and the plasma torch returns to home position, removing the coupon with it.  The operator then centers the outlet on the pipe with the centering rod and a second push of the start button initiates the welding.  When the weld is finished, the machine returns to the up position and is ready for the pipe to be moved to the next position.  If the next weld outlet is a different size, the size switch is reset and the cycle is ready to start again.

Automatic Position Drive features quickly adjustable display panel in feet, inches, and quarter inches.  A move button will move the pipe to preset position.  An unload button will move the carriage to the unload position and a home button will return the carriage to the starting position.

Pneumatic clamping allows the pipe to be gripped and released from a switch at the work station.
